Mr Abderrahim CHAHID was elected in 2016 as President of the Provincial Council of Zagora, which includes 25 communes, a population of 300 000 and extends over an area of 23000 km². The Provincial Council is a decentralized political unit in charge of advancing the social, economic and cultural development of the province of Zagora.
From 1994 to 2004, Mr Chahid was a teacher of Arabic literature and was very active in civil society and trade unions, sustainable development, human rights and environment.
In 2004, he joined the National Council of Human Rights »CNDH”, the national institution of human rights (NHRI) in Morocco, and held several positions within the CNDH. He was in charge of the program called “Community reparations and preservation of memory”, part of the Transitional Justice process. He also served as a coordinator of the citizen platform of human rights. He was also in charge of Human rights promotion in the CNDH.
Mr Chahid is a young politician who has never given up his convictions. He advocated measures to promote broad social and territorial justice and the opening up of marginalized areas, through a cultural and social policy which is reflected in several forums and seminars, or through audiovisual documentaries and publications, such as the Laghzala Zagora song.
